Episode 42: Why You Need a Funnel for Your Business

I recently did a survey of my audience, and hundreds of people responded back with their questions, reservations, and hang-ups with marketing funnels.

If YOU were one of those people, THANK YOU! I love reading all the insights and understanding how I can create even more podcasts and resources to help you find success in your online business.

If you didn’t get a chance to answer the survey yet, there is still time, and I’d LOVE to hear back from you. Just head over to michellelevans.com/survey. Then answer just a few quick questions that will take less than 5 minutes to get done… and you know what? You may inspire a future episode!

Biggest Show Takeaways:

  • I’ve shared before about when I first started out in business, and things were NOT going well: I’d done 50+ events, added over 2000 people to my contacts, made over 1000 sales calls yet made ZERO sales.
  • I would talk and connect with people at events BUT they also connected with many other people, so by the time I followed up, they’d forgotten most of what we’d talked about. Every conversation was starting over from scratch. It was FRUSTRATING but also really insightful.
  • After really listening to people’s reasons for not wanting to work with me, I realized they didn’t really know what I did OR how I could help them.
  • Being up on stages or a podcast guest or a blog guest is great for getting people to know about you, but people knowing about you doesn’t actually turn into business.
  • You’ve got to tap into something powerful in THEIR life and show them how you can help.
  • You need to figure out:
    • How do YOU attract your audience?
    • How do YOU stand out from the millions of options they have out there?
    • How do YOU create trust and a clear understanding of HOW you can help them?
  • When you just randomly put stuff out there, you’re not really going to see results. You may get some likes or comments, but you’ll see that the engagement will fizzle out fast.
  • What we want to do is to create a new opportunity for you to not only engage that traffic but to nurture them and take them from stranger to client.
  • For ANYONE to decide to purchase your offer — no matter the price — they FIRST need to feel like they’re making a good investment.
    • Your audience needs to trust that YOU are the person/your offer is the thing that will help them.
    • Your audience ALSO needs to feel like they’re not taking a crazy risk by taking your offer; they want to know it’s a sure thing and potentially that they will get their money back if it doesn’t work (or you’ll somehow reduce their risk).
  • This is EXACTLY what a well-planned marketing funnel does. You take your audience step by step from:
    • Their problem.
    • Imagining their life without that problem.
    • Examples of how you SOLVED that problem and the impact + possibility of having that problem taken out of their life.
    • Proof that you’ve helped yourself or others.
    • An offer to help them.
  • The purpose of a marketing funnel is to help your audience get to know you and how you can help them in a way that (even though it’s automated) still feels really relevant and personal.
  • A marketing funnel is you virtually taking your audience by the hand to give them the right insights, stories, and proof at every step of their journey — from stranger to client. The more relevant and authentic it is to who YOU are and the more relevant it is to their pain, the more successful the funnel will be.
