3 Biggest Causes of Business Owner Heartaches

Why did you start your business?

I'm guessing you have a gift, a calling, a skill and a desire to be your own boss… and maybe have some freedom and flexibility in your business.

  • You may want to decide when and how much you work.
  • You may want to be in control of how much you make.
  • You may want to focus on the work you love.

Whatever the reason… I'm guessing becoming an expert, professional marketer WASN'T the reason you started your business, right?

Well that's why I started MY BUSINESS.

Here’s a quick lowdown on me:

I’ve been a professional marketer for over 20 years. I’ve worked on everything from bank products to high tech, ecommerce to doctors offices, professional tax services to coaching, consulting to selling books. I've even worked alongside MBA professors at Duke, Northwestern and Stanford to teach marketing.

You name it, I’ve marketed it.

Most of my clients started with least one of these major heartaches:

Lack of New Clients

When they came to me they didn't have enough new clients consistently to feel secure and relaxed in their business.

HEADACHE CURE: You need to have a reliable system in place to consistently bring clients to YOUR business (without blogging till your fingers bleed, attending every networking event around, stalking strangers in Facebook groups or begging friends for referrals).

My favorite go-tos are: 1) Facebook ads 2) Being a guest on someone else's podcast 3) Guest blogging (get access to my favorite 15 strategies below)

Lack of Consistency

They don't have enough new people to make a sales offer consistently.

HEADACHE CURE: You need to check on a few things before deciding on your cure:

  • Do you have enough traffic coming to your website (if no, see #1)?
  • Do you have a way for people to establish a connection with you — a free gift they can download or a way to contact you?
    • If no, start there by creating a free gift and/or adding a contact form to your site.
    • If yes, move on to…
  • Is your free offer converting? (see #3 below)

Lack of Traffic

The people who DO come to their site aren't downloading any of their free gifts… so they're losing the traffic they do get almost immediately.

HEADACHE CURE: You need either 1) a more compelling free gift, 2) a more compelling opt-in page or 3) traffic interested in what you have to offer.

How to find out: for every 100 people who see it how many are taking action (giving you their email and/or submitting a contact form)? If it's less than 20% (or 20 people) you've got a conversion problem.

Bottom line

The biggest cure for this heartache is to develop a reliable, automatic and tested client creation system.

I'm going to be talking a LOT about client creation systems because almost no one else talks about it.

(Instead, other people try to sell you gimmicky tactics that don't work for your business.)

A client creation system is how you:

Attract strangers to your business.

Turn those strangers into followers.

Wow those followers so they become fans.

Easily transition fans into clients.

And turn clients into raving fans who tell the world about you.
